Pot Pie
Large dumpling type homemade noodles make this dish a favorite, especially in cold weather. Another dish from Mom, submitted by Dan Goheen. Great first time around, even better as leftovers.
Ingredients
  • 1+lb Stew Meat
  • Salt, Pepper and water
  • 2 Beef Bouillon Cubes, if needed
  • Diced Potatoes
Noodles
  • 2C Flour
  • 1 Egg
  • 1Tbsp Lard or solid shortening, may substitute 1 Tbsp oil
  • 1/2C Water
  • 1/2tsp Salt
  • Baking Soda, "good sized pinch"
Instructions
  1. Make Noodles while browning meat
  2. Brown stew meat in large dutch oven.
  3. Add salt, pepper and water to make a broth filling the pot to about 2/3rds full.
  4. Add bouillon cubes
  5. Add potatoes just before adding noodles
  6. To make noodles, make a well in the flour.
  7. Put remaining ingredients into well of flour and mix with a fork
  8. Roll out dough thin and cut into 1" strips
  9. Bring meat stock to a boil, add noodles.
  10. Boil until the potatoes and noodles are done. Noodles will be plump and tender.
